DESCRIPTION
Part of Guampedia's Women in Guam History commemorative poster series. All posters in this series consist of an image of the individual being recognized, along with a brief biography with notable accomplishments. Poster design by Odyessa San Nicolas.
Gertrude Costenoble Hornbostel (1893-1982) spent her formative years in the Marianas and Guam, where she learned to speak fluent CHamoru. She assisted American anthropologist Laura Thompson in her ethnographic research about the CHamoru people, but also she used this linguistic knowledge and her first-hand cultural experiences to document and explain many facets of CHamoru life.
